Consumers in the UK have been urged to "always shop around" when taking out new home insurance.
Kelly Ostler-Coyle of the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has stated that people should also base a decision on what product to buy on the cover is provides and not just the price of it.
The spokesperson explained that people should ask several questions of a policy, including whether it includes legal cover and all-risk extension fees that can cover items when consumers at outside of the home.
She added: "You want to be looking properly at your policy to see what cover you have for everything and not just going on price, so if anything happens you are completely covered."
The advice from the ABI has come after Andrew Perryman, the sales director of BestDeal Insurance, stated that many people often see what they think is a good deal and buy without taking any advice.
He added that such a move is generally a reaction by people who are concerned about the rising cost of insurance.
